SQL Server 2000 Migration

SQL Server 2000 has an install base running into many thousands in the UK alone. After eight successful years, on 8th April 2008 Microsoft ended mainstream support for all versions of SQL Server 2000.

SQL Server 2000 has entered an extended support phase - under which Microsoft have withdrawn no-charge incident support and non-security hotfix support (unless an Extended Hotfix Agreement is in place). Instead, Microsoft will provide security related fixes only.

In order to continue to receive support - including service packs, hotfixes and cumulative updates from Microsoft - customers should upgrade to a supported version (minimum SQL Server 2005 SP1).

If you see the value in maintaining a supported platform - think about the following:

  • Minimising downtime during upgrade or migration
  • Ensuring performance post-upgrade
  • Upgrading Jobs and Maintenance Plans
  • Migrating DTS Packages
  • Maintaining SQL Server Security and schema/ object ownership
  • Utilising new features such as page verify checksum, Dedicated Admin Connection and online index rebuilds
