Appliances deliver an important part of Microsoft's strategy to provide solutions with predictable cost, features and capacity. The solutions reduce complexity and risk involved in sizing and configuring a database solution.
The pre-configured appliances address customers needs for Database Consolidation and Business Intelligence (BI) with prescriptive solutions. The Database Consolidation appliance provides a solution that integrates Hyper-V with System Centre products to deliver rapid provisioning, active load balancing and cost allocation.
The BI appliances are available in a range of forms, starting with a department-level PowerPivot solution integrated with SharePoint named the Business Decision Appliance. The high-end solution is called Parallel Data Warehouse and delivers Microsoft's first Massive Parallel Processing (MPP) solution.
We've worked with a number of customers' evaluating and implementing appliance based solutions. These engagements typically start with a discovery phase to evaluate suitability and Return on Investment for an appliance based solution.
