This project involved upgrading and consolidating a number of databases and applications onto a centralised, highly available SQL Server 2005 platform. Like many customers, this organisation had a number of SQL Servers which had been deployed to differing hardware configurations and build standards over a period of years.
The project involved a complete server and database audit to build an inventory of the current environment to allow effective design and planning of the new solution. The new solution consisted of a consolidated environment running on a Windows Cluster hosting multiple SQL Server 2005 instances, each tailored to specific application needs.
Our customer now enjoys simplified management of their SQL Server platform and cost reduction achieved by reducing the number of servers operated, and standardisation of the platform. Additionally, they have spare capacity available in anticipation of future requirements from their users.
