Sarah Tremellen started Bravissimo from home in 1995 after spotting a gap in the market for a choice of bras for women with larger bust sizes. Bravissimo has since grown into a £45 million, 700 strong organisation selling lingerie, swimwear, nightwear and clothes in its 20 high street stores, via mail order and the web. Online sales are on the increase and therefore it is critical that its system can support current demand and also be scalable going forward.

Challenge / business problem
Bravissimo’s growth made it clear that it needed to redevelop its core systems and whichever solution and partner it chose needed to achieve:
- High–availability for shops, mail order, customer services and e-commerce web-site
- 24/7 systems management and critical support
- Reconciliation between the central database and separately hosted website database
- Future-proof scalability
Microsoft SQL Server was an obvious choice on balance between in-house skills, appropriateness for the size of the business and a low cost of ownership. With the technology decision made, the search for a partner to design, implement and support the system, began. Bravissimo found Coeo through our profile on the Microsoft Pinpoint tool.
Coeo fitted easily into the IT team and they have continued to work well together. Bravissimo was impressed by our knowledge of SQL Server but also by our understanding of the business drivers and creative approach to problem solving. To achieve the high-availability required, the solution uses Windows failover clustering, replication to scale-out the business to encompass a web retail application, and Transparent Database Encryption (TDE) to encrypt the database for security compliance. This delivered a resilient system with reduced application downtime, increased scalability and performance, enhanced application programmability, and tightened security controls.
With its new system in place for a year, Bravissimo has seen efficiencies across the board. Not only has it achieved its business objectives and seen an increase in sales but its ongoing support relationship with Coeo has paid dividends.
